The Home

The Independence House B & B is a historic, post civil war Capitol Hill Rowhouse.  The two-story brick home was built in 1871 and occupied by the builder's family until the 1930s.  During the 1930's the home was divided into three units, then reconverted back to a single family dwelling following WWII.  The downstairs features antique crystal chandeliers, original wood floors and original paintings by local Capitol Hill artists.  The second floor includes the owner's suite and the guest accommodations.  The guest room features a large bedroom with a queen bed, private sitting room, large desk, private hall bath, wireless internet and TV with cable.

Inside Independence House, guests enjoy the owner's collection of nineteenth century rugs from all over the world.  These are offset by modern room conveniences, including cable TV, WiFi high-speed Internet access and air conditioning.

Independence House is located in the Capitol Hill Historic District with its location described as "close in" to the U.S. Capitol (5 blocks) and a "good location" near Eastern Market (2 blocks).   This property has 2 Metro stations within a 2 - 2.5 block walk, both serving the Orange, Blue and Silver lines. The Library of Congress buildings are a 2-4 block walk as are the Folger Shakespeare Library and Theatre, U.S. Supreme Court, Eastern Market, numerous restaurants, boutiques and small businesses catering to nearby federal workers.   The neighborhood is nestled in the shadows of the Capitol with excellent public transportation available.  Guests enjoy walks along tree-lined streets with beautiful town homes and a small town atmosphere.  Jog west on Independence Avenue past the Capitol and along the National Mall to the Smithsonian Museums, Historic Monuments and all that Washington D.C. has to offer.
