Our Inn

The Apple Tree Inn offers visitors an exceptional location to explore all Washington has to offer.  Travelers to D.C. for sightseeing will find this home is walking distance to the National Mall, the Smithsonian Museums, National Monuments including the U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress and Supreme Court.  Business travelers will find the Congressional Offices at the Russell, Dirksen and Hart buildings a short walk, as well as the Hyatt Regency and Phoenix Park conference hotels near Union Station--about 10-12 minutes.  Stop in for a show at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre head to the famed Eastern Market, where you can browse through the Farmer's Market, Arts & Crafts or grab a bite to eat!

The 1884 renovated Victorian townhouse retains many of the best features of the 19th century, including pocket doors, 12' ceilings, carved woodwork, crown moldings and 3 working fireplaces. One particularly dramatic feature added with the renovations is a 2-story atrium with a curved stairway to the rear courtyard with a beautiful garden and fountain.

Accommodations

The Apple Tree Inn offers a traditional private home Bed and Breakfast experience.  You are the personal guests of the owners.  The home offers accommodations in just one guest room, located on the second floor of the home and furnished with a Queen size bed.  There is a full, private hall bath exclusive for guest use, adjacent to the bedroom.  The guest suite includes a 35" HD LCD TV with cable and complimentary wireless Internet, which carries throughout the home and courtyard.  Visitors are also encouraged to enjoy the sunny first floor living room and library, as well as the private courtyard in the rear of the property.  Mornings, your hosts treat you to a hot cooked breakfast.  In the warmer months, guests may enjoy dining around the courtyard fountain for breakfast or relaxing after a long day of sightseeing!  The Inn is centrally air-conditioned and heated for year-round comfort.

Transportation

There are two Metro stations within a short walk of this home.  Guests have a choice of the Red line at Union Station or the Blue/Orange lines at Eastern Market Station.  You may also walk to Union Station and catch a ride on a Circulator Bus that goes downtown or around the National Mall for just $1.00!  Union Station serves Amtrak, VRE, MARC trains and long distance bus service.  Guests may also choose to use the Metro Bus line (within 2 blocks) Uber, Zipcar or Car2go.  If you would like to take in the sights of the city with a bike ride, there are several Capital Bikeshare stations within walking distance of this property.  The residence is approximately 6 miles from Reagan National Airport.

Arrival

Check in time is after 2:00 p.m. and check out is 11:00 a.m. promptly.   In many cases you may be able to arrange an earlier time for luggage drop off.

Your Hosts

Your hosts first moved to Washington in 1984 but have spent the better part of 17 years working in the Foreign Service.  Simon was a certified public accountant with KPMG in Zambia, South Africa, Belgium and Nigeria.  He has recently transitioned to his second career, graduating from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in May of 2008.  He paints oil on canvas from his studio located in the Carriage House behind the home.  Guests will see some of his work displayed throughout the Inn. Robyn retired after 30 years as a career diplomat enjoying assignments at the American Embassies in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and was the Consul General in Lagos, Nigeria.  Both of your hosts are fluent in French.

Parking/Pets

Please be aware that parking in Washington can be a challenge!  Because of our convenient location, you will not need a car to access any of the Capitol's sights once here.  If you arrive by car, the owners can provide a parking permit at no additional charge.

Please note, in addition to your hosts, their loving pets Teddy, a Spanish Water Dog and Freddy, a smoke grey feline also call the Apple Tree Inn home.  Teddy and Freddy are not permitted in the guest room, but do have full reign of the rest of the Inn.  I am sorry, we are unable to accept guest pets.

Rates/Reservations

Rates are seasonal with spring and fall being peak seasons for our area.  A two-night minimum reservation is required at all times.  All of our homes are smoke free.
