Quiet yet Vibrant Neighborhood:

Stone Manor is located in the Upper Northwest area of Washington, DC, often referred to as the “Quieter Side” of the city. This specific neighborhood, Forest Hills, is nestled between Rock Creek Park and Connecticut Ave. The house was built in 1931, and is noted for its spectacular great room, which features a soaring, two story, stone fireplace and expansive windows that overlook the home’s gardens, terraces and lily pond. A formal dining room with an adjacent conservatory, a state-of-the-art kitchen (with eating area) and the owner’s library complete the first floor. The well-traveled hostess has decorated the B&B with fascinating art and artifacts from Central America, the Near East and Africa.

The home is a five-minute walk to vibrant Connecticut Avenue, where you'll find fabulous shopping and restaurant choices. The L2 and L4 buses run along Connecticut Avenue every seven minutes and make stops at Van Ness Metro station (Red Line); Cleveland Park and the National Zoo; then continue to the Marriott Wardman, Omni Shoreham and Hilton Towers hotels before terminating at Dupont Circle or the White House. American University is a little over two miles from the house and also can be reached by public transportation. Visitors with a car can easily travel to the National Institutes of Health and the Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland - about five miles North. To top it off, Rock Creek National Park is just a 15 minute walk East of the home.

Cozy and Homelike Accommodations

Stone Manor offers a choice of two, second floor guest rooms.

The Green and White Room features a full-size, iron bed with an en-suite full bath. A sofa with lots of comfy pillows offers a secondary place for weary guests to curl up at the end of a day and listen to the chattering cicadas or watch TV (color, cable). The room has a telephone and complimentary wireless Internet access.

The Deauville Blue Room features blue and cream striped walls that give this guest room a whimsical, romantic feel. There's an old-fashioned, queen-size, mahogany, four poster bed with a matching secretary. This is a perfect place to tuck in with a book and a thermos of complimentary hot chocolate. There's a private hall bath with tub and shower, color TV with cable, phone and complimentary wireless Internet access.

Well-Traveled Hostess:

Your hostess is a former New York Times reporter and ABC Television Network producer, who is now fully engaged in writing a series of mysteries that are based in Washington, but she says, are "decidedly un-Washington-like." During her stints as a foreign correspondent, she lived in the Middle East and Africa, as well as in Central and Latin America. She served as a volunteer in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia and is an honored recipient of a Japan Society fellowship. She speaks basic Amharic and Arabic, good Spanish and, she will tell you, "bad French." She enjoys cooking, and at one time hosted her own cooking show.

Extra Details:

"Continental plus" breakfast is served Monday through Saturday in the sunny breakfast area of the large kitchen. Sundays, guests are treated to a full "Southern" breakfast in the formal dining room. Free off street parking is provided.
